Ferret-Sitting / Boarding Agreement                                Date :  _____________________

Members of the Manitoba Ferret Association provide ferret-sitting and boarding services.  This agreement is intended to ensure the health and safety of the ferret(s). This form is a legally binding contract between the ferret owner requesting ferret sitting service and the MFA member in good standing providing the service.

Fees for boarding vary depending on whether the client is a non-member  or a long-term member of the MFA. Fees must be paid in full by cash or certified cheque by the owner requesting the service before this agreement can be activated.

In cases of long-term boarding for periods of thirty (30) days or more, any arrangement to pay by instalments must be pre-approved by the MFA executive.  Any ferret(s) left unclaimed by the owner at the end of the boarding period without renewal of the agreement for further boarding services (and partial payment if applicable) becomes the property of the Manitoba Ferret Association. The ferret(s) shall be considered surrendered to the Manitoba Ferret Association Shelter for suitable placement in an adoptive home after a grace period of two weeks.  The ferret owner may re-claim the ferret(s) by paying the outstanding boarding fees up to and including the two-week grace period.

*All rates as posted on our web site and herein listed may not be current due to delays in revising the web site/agreement form. A member of the MFA must be a member for 3 months prior to the requested dates.  The member fee is $5.00 a day per ferret household (households cannot be combined).

Non-members will be charged $10.00 a day.  Ferret owner requesting the service must provide a ferret friendly cage, the food, litter, toys and other necessary supplies for the duration of requested service.  *The MFA will rent a double-door rabbit cage (same style of cages in use in the shelter) at a rate of $25.00 a week.  Used double door rabbit cages are available for purchase from the MFA for $75.00.

Ferret Owner requesting Ferret Sitting:

I, (print) __________________________________, (sign) _____________________________________,

affirm that I am the owner of the ferrets listed.  I have ensured that the ferrets are free of ear mites, fleas, ticks, and any communicable diseases.  I affirm that the ferrets’ vaccinations for distemper are up to date and have provided verification of same.  I agree that I am responsible for any and all expenses resulting from ear mites, fleas, ticks, or any communicable diseases brought into the volunteer’s home by my ferrets.

I agree to pay all expenses necessary to ensure the health and safety of my ferrets. I agree to provide the cage, blankets, food, treats, litter, and any medications for the entire ferret sitting period. I agree to rent a cage from the MFA at a cost of $25.00 a week if I cannot provide my own cage.

I will reveal any behaviour that my ferret(s) exhibit that might place them in danger or may cause damage to property. Examples: climbing and leaping off high places, digging in the couch, carpet digging, hiding under throw rugs, opening cupboards, bolting for the outdoors.

1.  I have authorized my vet clinic _________________________________________________ to cover any vet bills up to a maximum of $______________ (or “no max”).

            2.  If the cost of emergency medical treatment exceeds this maximum amount and I cannot be reached, I will agree to cover any outstanding fees or I will authorise the volunteer to surrender the ferret to the Manitoba Ferret Association (Please circle your choice).

*Depending on the ferret’s age and the treatment required, the Manitoba Ferret Association may choose to euthanize the ferret on the advise of the Veterinarian.

I agree that during the boarding period, the volunteer has the authority to make all decisions concerning the welfare of my ferret(s) in the event I cannot be contacted.  I agree that the MFA and its volunteer are not liable for any accident or illness that affects the ferret(s) during the boarding period.

In the event of my death during this contract, I request that my ferrets be surrendered to:
